The Limetree Festival is how festivals used to be ..... amongst the beautiful surroundings of Limetree Farm nature reserve atoldenseed are proud to be one of the official sponsors of this superb event ne We have created a new annual event that focuses on returning to how festivals used to be before they became these big corporate enterprises that they are today. With so few festivals in the north and those that there are, tend to be highly commercial and expensive. We want to offer people something different. Last year's event was a great success and earned a nomination for best new festival at the UK Festival Awards 2008. The next event will be held on 24-26 July 2010 Just arrive, relax and enjoy a festival how it should be. TheEntertainment 3 stages featuring a top class lineup of bands and artists renowned for their live performances plus comedy, cabaret, street theatre, late night cinema, art, poetry, politics, literature & more. The Facilities There will be beer tents, quality local food as well as weird and wonderful stalls for you to potter round and a healing area for you to rejuvenate mind, body and soul. With free camping, onsite showers, onsite parking, no nightclub style prices, no economy burgers, no nasty toilets, no prima donnas and no need to take time off work. The Setting The site is a blend of rolling hills, ancient woods and wildflower meadows. It also features a stone circle and an iron-age round house all of which gives the the site its own spirit & energy. (see Limetree Farm website for more about the site) The Limetree Experience This combination of stunning setting, unique atmosphere and the quality of acts and attractions on offer, make this the perfect place for like minded souls to get together & enjoy a weekend not to be missed.

 

Mbackeh Darboe is well known for his wild dancing, pounding drumming and haunting singing skills. Born into a “Griot” family (the musical historians of West Africa), he specialises in the vibrant Afro-Manding rhythms, from The Gambia, Senegal, Mali and Guinea.  As lead singer and dancer with The Gambia’s number one band “Roots Kunta Kinteh”, Mbackeh left in 1995 to make his Australian debut at Festival of Darwin. For 12 years, he worked Australia wide performing at major Festivals plus providing valuable African cultural learning experience workshops for all ages and abilities. He has appeared in over 50 major festivals in Australia. In Canberra he worked for the Department of Immigration and Ethnic Affairs and Community Aid Abroad, culminating in a performance at Parliament House. For two years he ran an “African Cultural Experience” program for schools in South Australia, in conjunction with Global Education. He continued a similar program in the Northern Territory with drumming, drum making and dance workshops, which were especially popular with Aboriginal communities. In Adelaide he joined forces with powerful Gambian percussionist Ebrima King Marong to form “Bantaba Binde” band (“the meeting place in Mandinka). Then his own high energy “Mandinka Music” band over the years which included several leading Australian musicians. In 2007 he returned home to form an exciting “super band” of all experienced Gambian musicians “Back To The Roots”. With traditional Kora (21 string harp), Balafon (xylophone), drums plus guitars, a contemporary Afro Manding flavour has emerged plus surprise original material. They starred at Kartong Festival 2009 in The Gambia & are working on a CD. Mbackeh hopes to pay a second visit to the UK soon.

The self-confessed perfectionist James Broome was born and raised in Manchester, England. He is passionate about photography, travel, surfing and food. James has proven his ability in adapting well to different environments and stressful situations. This, along with his confidence and reliability makes him an invaluable resource for all your photographic needs.

Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat at 10,582 km2 ( 4,085 square miles. It is located in southwest Booliva, near the crest of the Andes, 3,650 meters above sea level. The major minerals in the salar are halite and gypsum.This vast landscape and clear blue skies make it the perfect place for creative photography. James will be showing some of his collection at the Gig on Friday the 30th October along with doing a shoot on the evening :-))

Cuillin Blue don’t do predictable! A great live band, expect the unexpected as this powerful five piece, fronted by the wonderful voice of Marsha Jane Tarvet take you on a journey. We are thrilled to welcome you with a packed programme for the eighteenth annual Marsden Jazz Festival. We have hand-picked a fine selection of music from right across the spectrum of jazz for new and seasoned jazz fans alike. This year’s programme is bulging with new bands and sounds alongside firm festival favourites.

Marsden Jazz Festival is a crossing point for musicians regionally, nationally and internationally and the perfect place for new and established jazz audiences to listen to something familiar or something totally different. This year, as well as our regular headline concert series, we are bringing you a new stream of bands. We want to introduce you to new jazz music and delight, enthral or challenge your ears, so the new stream gigs are priced to entice. Catch these rising stars in intimate surroundings while you can! New to Marsden Jazz Festival this year are events especially for young people and family audiences at the Standedge Tunnel Visitor centre.

As in previous years, the majority of gigs at Marsden Jazz Festival are presented free of charge thanks to the generous support of the hosting venues – please raise a glass to them! Marsden Jazz Festival would not be possible without a dedicated band of volunteers to plan and run the festival year-round and help out on the weekend itself. Dan Curtis is a professional singer from the United Kingdom and has performed at many prestigious venues including the Millennium Stadium, Cafe Jazz, Llandaff Cathedral and a Concert prior to the BAFTA Awards held at Wales Millennium Centre. Dan recently performed one of the first ever Jazz Concerts under the Hard Rock Cafe brand at the Hard Rock Cafe in Cardiff. Earlier this year Dan made his American debut performing concerts in New York City and Florida including the internationally recognised BB Kings Blues Club. Dan has received excellent feedback from many industry professionals including Arturo O’ Farrill the Grammy nominated Music director of Jazz at the Lincoln Centre. Dan is heavily influenced by the singer Michael Buble with whom his style has been compared.

 

In 2002 a young man knocked at my door and asked me if I would like to present a rock show on a local radio station he was putting together. He told me he wanted a diverse array of musical genres, and asked me if I would present a retro rock show, having remembered me as ‘the rock guru’ for waxing lyrical about the great bands from the 1960’s & 1970’s. He even had a name for the show ‘The Rock of Ages Show’ which is now known as “The Rock of Ages Radio Show”.
I remember pre-recording the first shows at home, converting vinyl onto mini disc. It was a painful labour of love, as I was suffering from a DVT, fractured hip and ankle at the time, and trying to wash albums at the kitchen sink to remove crackle & static whilst balancing on crutches proved to be quite a challenge.

“The Rock of Ages Radio Show” is my dedication to great musicians past and present who also went through a ‘pain barrier’ of rejection and indifference to deliver ‘ground breaking’ musical triumphs which continue to reverberate to this day, they are the catalysts for others who have followed in their footsteps.

Big Bear Records, probably the longest established independent record company in the UK, have been at the forefront of Jazz, Swing and Blues since 1968.

The company was named Big Bear by legendary radio producer John Peel who thought the gait of the label's founder, Jim Simpson, resembled that of a bear. The label grew out of Simpson's productioncompany which has steered Black Sabbath through their first three years and the best 3 albums of their career.

Initially recording U.S. Bluesmen, the labels repertoire quickly expanded first to include such significant West Midlands bands as Muscles, The Quads, Garbo's Celluloid Heroes, The Gangsters and Mel Gaynor's Zulu.

From 1985, Big Bear Records began to establish its reputation as the home of great jazz, blues and swing with King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys, Kenny Baker's Dozen, Clark Terry Big Bird Band, Bruce Adams / Alan Barnes Quintet, Lady Sings The Blues, Alan Barnes All-Stars and many more.

And there's more to come, with new talents Tipitina and The Doctor Teeth Big Band, both out on the road promoting their hot new CDs on Big Bear. Thanks to Steve Kelly at BB Music for his help.............

The unique open thrust stage provides perfect viewing from any angle.
The home of amateur theatre company 'Crompton Stage Society', since 1966, a wide variety of entertainment, professional as well as amateur, is produced each year.
The theatre is solely owned and operated by the Society's membership with no regular external funding and new recruits to help run the theatre are more than welcome.

 

 

Chris Roach is a excellent Blues guitarist, based in Salford ,near, Manchester, UK. who specialize in electric Blues guitar both traditional and contemporary and well  established on the UK Blues scene; you may have seen him on stage with the Roach Twins Band or heard our recordings!
