DORIS BRENDEL TRIO

Playing the JBs stage Friday night the 26th August

Doris Brendel alive and in the groove, playing the JBs stage Friday the 26th August Limetree Arts and Music festival 2011

Doris Brendel, a singer of rare talent and pedigree, has recently released her latest album, The Last Adventure, on Sky-rocket Records on 1st November 2010. The daughter of famed classical pianist Alfred Brendel, her distinctive vocals were the driving force behind 1990s alt-rockers The Violet Hour, who were signed to Sony when they released their now revered, classic album ‘The Fire Sermon’ in 1991.

Twenty years on, and just as The Violet Hour are finally receiving the acclaim their brilliance deserved, Brendel has forged ahead with a new, more exciting chapter in her solo career with the heavily-anticipated release of The Last Adventure.

Recorded with a circle of musicians that Doris has been working with extensively over the years, including Dave Beeson who produced her last album DB Driving, The Last Adventure has a gorgeously retro feel that perfectly compliments Brendel’s distinctive, husky vocals. Recorded in the old-fashioned way — no sequencers or click tracks for Brendel — at heart it’s a rock record that embraces a variety of styles. Think Joni Mitchell or Skunk Anansie getting down with the Beatles and Muse.

‘The Last Adventure’ marks Doris Brendel’s 6th album and she is already working on the next one. Throughout her career she has toured with bands including Marillion, Nils Lofgren and John Farnham; has done countless session work including Sam Brown; and has even sung and fronted for dance records with deals with Virgin and London Records.

The last year has seen a resurgence of creativity with writing commissions. She has written the song for the Reunite Charity Campaign to be released in February 2011, as well as the theme tune for the upcoming film ‘About Her’ to be produced by Nigel Douglas. A dance single of her song ‘Latest Fantasy’ remixed by Dave Ball (Soft Cell) has already been released, followed by further mixes by Goodguy and Sound Effect later this year.

With several thousands of gigs under her belt, Doris Brendel is one of the most accomplished live singers on the scene.
